Cove Park: Off on a Jaunt

When They Froze the Cloth on my Body Like Armour Riveted Fast. Yeats. 62cm x 82cm. Sept 2015

Okay!!! Cove Park is setting off on a venture to London…this is a research trip with Argyll Youth Arts. Myself together with one of our young Arts Promotors from Bute and the Hands On Programme Producer from Cove Park are going to find out all about how the Victoria and Albert Museum runs their Saturday Youth Arts Club. These clubs are staging their summer exhibition this weekend also, and we will get a feel for the work from that also.

It’s all very exciting because of the cleverly conceived workings of Argyll Youth Arts. It is a publicly funded project in Scotland, and professional artists and art tutors like myself are facilitated to take creative projects to various gatherings of young people. Immersive Weekends are where this all happens. The intention is that the young people have time to become immersed in their chosen project and actually have the opportunity to follow through on their idea. It is an excellent concept because it benefits so many within our rural community.

Many art schools and universities run Saturday art clubs within their premises.  The Victoria and Albert Museum also run one.  Cove Park the centre for international art residencies in Cove, Argyll, hopes to pioneer this concept in Scotland.  Cove Park and The Victoria and Albert Museum will be the first two organisations outwit the university setting to run these clubs.
