On Consolation

Mending broken things.

On Consolation

Eleanor Carlingford June 1, 2020

I notice a great many people are fixing, painting, renewing, repairing during lockdown. and yesterday I found myself pondering over this while looking vacantly at my hall dresser. The photos here show various parts of it. On one door the paint has a deliciously antiqued look because of engine oil which has come seeping out through the paint that I applied. It only had one door handle, so I took a couple of bits of broken brass fittings to a local light engineering shop and he fashioned me a handle that would work. All this was done ten years ago when I was starting to live on my own. Here is a little story about that dresser.
